  • About

Conceived in 1995 by a group of passionate local gardeners, the Sawtooth Botanical Garden began as the Sawtooth Community Garden Project with the goals of showcasing sustainable gardening practices and allowing for community members to rent plots and grow vegetables and flowers. The five-acre site was formerly a horse pasture and is nestled amid three mountain ranges just south of Ketchum, ID. As membership grew, so did an awareness of the unique gardening and landscaping opportunities in our area and, in 2000, the Community Garden was renamed the Sawtooth Botanical Garden. Implementing an expanded vision of providing a wide range of programs and classes for all ages and sponsoring events as a resource for the community The Sawtooth Botanical Garden is a valuable educational resource and a popular local attraction. HIGHLIGHTS OF OUR SITE INCLUDE: Riparian Area Willow, Aspen and Cottonwood trees along with other native riparian plants line the banks of the spring-fed creek that runs through our garden. This creek is known as a Comstock Ditch which never freezes and flows year-round. It is a wetland wildlife habitat for birds, native trout, beaver, moose and insect life. Home Demonstration Xeriscape Garden Funded by a grant from the Stanley Smith Horticultural Trust and installed in 2004, these beds showcase a wide variety of colorful and showy drought-tolerant plants and demonstrate low water usage with a drip irrigation system. Herbaceous Perennial Display Garden A project donated and installed by The Dig It Garden Club.
