When it comes to beer; do you like it from a bottle, can, or under the glow of neon as it pours from a tap into a glass? Did you know that all those items are considered breweriana? Breweriana is defined as, “… a wide range of items having to do with beer and brewing.” (CollectorsWeekly.com). In Idaho, beer has been a part of the community and economy since 1862, decades before it became a state. Idaho’s breweriana chronicles the stories of our beer, brewers, drinkers, and collectors since the 19th century. This History Happy Hour, join brewers and collectors around the state as we dive into Idaho’s history of beer through the lens of breweriana. Joe Prin (beer can collector and radio personality) and Steve Armstrong (beer bottle and other breweriana collector and beer historian), are coming together with Graham Lilly (owner of Hunga Dunga Brewery), Paige and Mike Francis (owners of Payette Brewing), and Beth Betchel (CEO and CBO of Bear Island Brewing) to talk about Idaho’s beer culture, past and present. Moderated by Alison Espindola (Event & Rental Coordinator at the Idaho State Museum), panelists will discuss Idaho beer and what we can learn from the artifacts of this beloved beverage.
