Clean Sweep is the one event each year when the valley community turns out en masse to clean up our towns and the bike path. The Environmental Resource Center (ERC), organizer of this event for 19 years, invites you, your friends, family and co-workers to join them on Saturday, May 11 to participate in this fun day. It’s simple: meet at 9a.m. at a registration site to collect bags, gloves and maps, let us know which streets you’ll clean, and grab a donut, then fan out to pick up the winter’s leavings of litter. Registration locations are Atkinsons’ Park for Ketchum and Sun Valley participants, Memorial Park in Bellevue, and Hop Porter Park for Hailey volunteers. Meet at noon for lunch donated by KB’s (Hailey and Bellevue) and The Sawtooth Club (Ketchum and Sun Valley). Prizes for categories like Best Team Spirit (costumes, at the least!), Most Bags Collected by an Individual, Largest Age Span of a Team, and Weirdest Item Found will be awarded and everyone will be eligible for a raffle prizes from local businesses. Bring your camera and enter your best shot for our Facebook photo contest (details on Facebook and our website)! Also this year in Hailey we welcome the 5B Recycles team, offering information about local recycling options, and Hilex Poly, the plastic bag recyclers from Jerome, who will explain the new types of plastic that they recycle from valley collection bins. Clean Sweep events are fun and also set a great example about civic pride. Participation is free. Youth and business groups, please give the ERC a heads up that you are participating.
