2016 Summer Concert Series Addition: Emmylou Harris with Special Guest Ian Janco

Ketchum, ID — May 3, 2016 — The Sun Valley Center for the Arts has made an exciting addition to their 2016 Summer Concert Series lineup: 13-time Grammy winner and Billboard Century Award recipient, Emmylou Harris. The legendary singer and songwriter will perform on Monday, August 8, at 7pm at River Run Lodge and opening for Harris will be very special guest, and Hailey native, Ian Janco.

During her 40-year career, Harris has recorded more than 25 albums, sold more than 15 million records, lent her talents to countless fellow artists’ recordings, and earned the music industry’s top awards. Among these accolades are her 2008 induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame, 13 Grammy Awards (including a 2016 award with Rodney Crowell for “Best Americana Album”), three Country Music Association Awards, and two Americana Awards. Harris has collaborated with the likes of Linda Ronstadt, Bob Dylan, Mark Knopfler, Neil Young, Gram Parsons, Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton, Roy Orbison, Elvis Costello, Johnny Cash, Lyle Lovett and many more.

Harris has earned these honors, and her wide following, with her eloquently straightforward songwriting and her incomparably expressive singing. Admired through her career for her talent as an artist and song connoisseur, Harris shook up country radio in the 1970s and established herself as the premiere songwriter of a generation. She is also known to champion social causes—including performing at Lilith Fair to support women in music, organizing several benefit tours for the Vietnam Veterans of America Foundation and supporting animal rights with Bonaparte’s Retreat, the dog rescue organization that she founded.

“Emmylou Harris is truly an American institution. Her dedication to her music, her incredible voice and her ability to connect so deeply with audiences has created legions of devoted fans,” says Kristine Bretall, Director of Performing Arts. “Sun Valley will be her only Southern Idaho appearance this summer and we’re thrilled that people will be coming in from far and wide to see this show.”

Opening for Emmylou Harris is up-and-coming artist, Ian Janco, who was born in Hailey and spent his formative years on a ranch outside of Stanley. He has been playing original songs in front of live audiences since age five and recorded his first EP at age eight. In his teens Janco moved with his family to Santa Cruz, California, and began playing on the street on Pacific Avenue as well as playing in local venues and recording. He released his debut album, Stronghold, in 2014—the product of five-month busking and sightseeing tour of Europe. Janco’s sound is reminiscent of late 60s troubadours, such as Bob Dylan and Neil Young, and his voice has been compared with Ben Howard and Ray LaMontagne. Today, this rising star lives in Liverpool, England, where he is studying at Paul McCartney’s Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts and has been playing countless gigs, was featured on an hour-long radio show for BBC Merseyside and has received glowing reviews for his work.
