Sun Valley, ID…. Traveling to Sun Valley this summer and fall will continue to be more convenient with a 17% increase in airline seat capacity on nonstop flights from five major cities for the upcoming 2016 summer and fall season, officials with Fly Sun Valley Alliance (FSVA) announced.

  • United Airlines will offer seasonal summer service between its Denver (DEN) and San Francisco (SFO) hubs and Sun Valley (SUN) from June 24 through September 18.
  • Alaska Airlines will offer seasonal service between Los Angeles (LAX) and Seattle (SEA) and SUN beginning June 10 and ending October 2 for LAX and ending October 16 for SEA.
  • Delta Air Lines will offer three daily year-round flights from Salt Lake City (SLC) for most of the summer and fall season and will also offer new nonstop flights from LAX on Saturdays and Sundays during the peak summer season.

FSVA and Sun Valley Resort worked with SUN airline partners to optimize the flight schedule for this coming season based on past performance, anticipated demand and other factors.   Total seat capacity into SUN for the 2016 summer/fall season will increase by 8,215 seats, 17% over 2015 summer/fall season.  Total SUN seat capacity for the 2016 calendar year will increase by 15,301, 15% over 2015 calendar year.

Fly Sun Valley Alliance Director Carol Waller said that the 2016 SUN seat increase is due in part by the additional flights offered by Delta Air Lines, which has increased the number of days it will operate 3 daily flights between SLC and SUN in 2016.  “Overall, we will have 169 days in 2016 with 3 daily Delta flights to SLC compared to only 59 days in 2015, which is a 186% increase.  We know this is especially welcome news for many of our local and business air travelers,” she remarked.

“We are continuing to work with our airline partners to  strategically increase our air service access and the marketing of that service, a strategy which has proven successful to date,” noted Eric Seder, FSVA Board President.  “ For example, this past winter season we increased our contract air seats by 16% and the bookings for those seats increased by 15%.  We are looking forward to a strong summer, fall season with more air travelers utilizing the convenient flights and competitive fares being offered at SUN,” he added.
