Symphony Speaking Series Highlights 2018 Repertoire
The Sun Valley Summer Symphony’s “Upbeat with Alasdair” Talk on January 4 will Provide Exclusive Insight to Music Selected for the Summer’s “In Focus Series”

Sun Valley, IDAHO — Sun Valley Summer Symphony Music Director, Alasdair Neale, returns to host his popular speaking series, “Upbeat with Alasdair,” on Thursday, January 4. Titled “Why Mozart?,” the talk will provide a first look at the 2018 “In Focus Series” performances to take place July 29-August 3.

The “Upbeat with Alasdair” speaking series, held at The Community Library in the winter and spring each year, provides Maestro Neale the opportunity to share the passion and stories behind repertoire to be performed during the Symphony’s summer season. In keeping with the Symphony’s mission, the “Upbeat with Alasdair” talks provide opportunities for music education in the Wood River Valley. “Why Mozart?” will examine works by Mozart to be performed July 29, July 31, August 2 and August 3 as part of the Symphony’s 2018 “In Focus Series.” The full Symphony summer season runs until August 23 and includes the orchestra festival which begins August 5 and Gala benefit concert on August 6.

“Alasdair's passion for the music lights up these talks and beautifully brings the music to life,” says Education Artistic Director RL Rowsey. “People ask how we can stand to wait all year for the next season’s performances. Watching students in the School of Music dive into their work all year is one way. Hearing Alasdair speak passionately about the upcoming work is another.”

The program will begin at 6:30 p.m. at The Community Library, 415 Spruce Ave. in Ketchum. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. Admission is free, but space is limited, and the event is often full. Those interested are encouraged to arrive early. Reservations can be made by calling the Symphony office, (208) 622-5607, or by emailing info@svsummersyphony.org.

Individuals unable to attend the January 4 lecture in person will be able to watch via online livestream on the Symphony’s website at www.svsummersymphony.org/ education-events/.
