OPEN YOUR HOME FOR THE FESTIVAL!
It is because of generous members of our community who donate lodging that the Trailing of the Sheep Festival is able to continue to host this unique extended weekend of events celebrating our rich history, heritage and culture.  As the Festival grows, so does our need for lodging.  Since most of our events are offered either free or at a very low cost, your support by opening your home and heart as a lodging host is a vital part of our success.  Bringing in musicians, storytellers, dancers, performers, artists and cultural groups is an important and much-loved part of the Festival experience and a wonderful way for you to get to know these people and their stories by hosting them in your home and sharing stories around your kitchen table!  If you are able to donate space, please contact us at 208.720.0585 or info@trailingofthesheep.org.

More About The Festival
The annual Trailing of the Sheep Festival is celebrating its 21st year, October 4–8 in the Wood River Valley.  Each Fall, the Festival celebrates the 150+ year tradition of moving sheep (‘trailing’) from high mountain summer pastures down through the Valley to traditional winter grazing areas in the south.  This annual migration is Idaho living history and a family-friendly festival that highlights the people, arts, cultures and traditions of sheep ranching in Idaho and the West.

The five-day Festival includes nonstop activities in multiple venues - history, folk and traditional arts, a Sheep Folklife Fair with music and dance, a Wool Festival, storytelling, Championship Sheepdog Trials, multiple culinary events and, the always entertaining, Big Sheep Parade with 1,500 sheep hoofing it down Main Street in Ketchum.

The Trailing of the Sheep Festival has garnered its share of top accolades including being recognized as one of the Top Ten Fall Festivals in the World by msn.com travel, Top Ten US Fall Festivals by smartertravel.com, Top Ten Fall Festivals by USA Today, One of the Greatest Cultural Events in the West by Northwest Travel, Best Festival by readers of Sun Valley Guide and recipient of the Idaho Governor’s Award for Cultural Heritage.
