2017 Sun Valley Wellness Festival Celebrates 20 years of Inspiration for Healthy Living
20th anniversary event features Arianna Huffington and other top speakers, workshops, more
May 26 – 29, 2017
Sun Valley, ID…..For two decades the renowned Sun Valley Wellness Festival has inspired thousands of people to live healthier lives, and its upcoming 20th anniversary event will celebrate that milestone by featuring some of the world’s foremost wellness speakers, including global media powerhouse and wellness advocate Arianna Huffington, co-presented with the Sun Valley Center for the Arts. The four-day conference, held at the famous Sun Valley Resort on May 26 - 29, 2017, features top wellness experts with more than 30 presentations and workshops addressing diverse aspects of body, mind, spirit, and environmental wellness.  The festival also offers movement classes, a Wellness Experience Hall, music, and more.  The 2017 keynote speakers are Arianna Huffington, one of the world’s most influential women, Dr. Vandana Shiva, revolutionary global activist for environmental sustainability, and Wayne Pacelle, CEO of The Humane Society of the United States, and noted animal rights advocate.
Arianna Huffington is the founder of The Huffington Post, the founder and CEO of Thrive Global, and the author of fifteen books, including, most recently, Thrive and The Sleep Revolution. In May 2005, she launched The Huffington Post, a news and blog site that quickly became one of the most widely-read, linked to, and frequently-cited media brands on the Internet, and in 2012 won a Pulitzer Prize for national reporting. In August 2016, she launched Thrive Global, a corporate and consumer well-being and productivity platform with the mission of changing the way we work and live by ending the collective delusion that burnout is the price we must pay for success. Thrive Global provides trainings, seminars, e-courses, coaching and ongoing support based on the latest scientific findings to improve people’s health and increase productivity for both companies and individuals around the world.
She has been named to Time Magazine's list of the world’s 100 most influential people and the Forbes Most Powerful Women list. Originally from Greece, she moved to England when she was 16 and graduated from Cambridge University with an M.A. in economics. At 21, she became president of the famed debating society, the Cambridge Union. She serves on numerous boards, including Uber and The Center for Public Integrity. Her last two books, thrive: The Third Metric to Redefining Success and Creating a Life of Well-Being, Wisdom, and Wonder and The Sleep Revolution: Transforming Your Life, One Night at A Time, on the science, history, and mystery of sleep, both became instant international bestsellers. Her presentation is co-presented with the Sun Valley Center for the Arts.
Dr. Vandana Shiva is a trained Physicist and global environment ‘hero’.  As founder of several environmental institutes including Navdanya, a national movement to protect the diversity and integrity of living resources – especially native seed – and to promote organic farming and fair trade, Dr. Shiva has contributed in fundamental ways to changing the practice and paradigms of agriculture and food. Her books The Violence of the Green Revolution and Monocultures of the Mind pose essential challenges to the dominant paradigm of non-sustainable, industrial agriculture. Through her books Biopiracy, Stolen Harvest and Water Wars, Dr. Shiva has made visible the social, economic, and ecological costs of corporate-led globalization.  Dr. Shiva has campaigned internationally on issues surrounding biotechnology and genetic engineering. She has helped movements in Africa, Asia, Latin America, Ireland, Switzerland, and Austria with their campaigns against genetic engineering. Dr. Shiva combines sharp intellectual enquiry with courageous activism, and her work spans teaching at universities worldwide to working with peasants in rural India. Time Magazine identified Dr. Shiva as an environmental ‘hero’ in 2003, and Asia Week has called her one of the five most powerful communicators in Asia. In November 2010, Forbes identified Dr. Shiva as one of the Seven Most Powerful Women on the Globe.
Wayne Pacelle is the president and chief executive officer of The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) and author of The Bond: Our Kinship with Animals and Our Call to Defend Them and The Humane Economy: How Innovators and Enlightened Consumers are Transforming the Lives of Animals. In his keynote speeches, as well as in his books and his many national media appearances, Pacelle explores the complicated and often contradictory relationships we have with animals – arguing that we have an instinctive bond with animals, but how that bond has been broken in many ways during the Industrial era. Pacelle shows us that what we do as consumers can benefit animals, the environment, and human society, and why these decisions can make economic sense as well.  The NonProfit Times named Pacelle one of its “Executives of the Year” in 2005 and to its annual “Power and Influence Top 50” nonprofit executives in 2008 and 2009.
Other 2017 Sun Valley Wellness Festival speakers include: Dr. James Doty, New York Times best-selling author, neurosurgeon and compassion champion, David Whyte, influential poet and author, Morgana Rae, the world’s leading Relationship with Money coach, Thomas John, internationally regarded psychic medium and clairvoyant, Agapi Stassinopoulos, inspirational speaker and bestselling author,  Catherine Schwerwenka, certified Oneness Meditator, Toni Childs, acclaimed singer-songwriter, and many others.
Movement Studio & Experience Hall
In addition to the exceptional line up of speakers and workshops, the Sun Valley Wellness Festival will offer a Movement Studio with a variety of ongoing movement and yoga classes taught by outstanding teachers. The Experience Hall features wellness products and hands on experiences with wellness practitioners.  Attendees can get a massage, reflexology, have an intuitive reading, or try a henna tattoo.  The Experience Hall is free and open to the public throughout the festival.
For those who want to mix in some outdoor fun, the Sun Valley area, located amidst the spectacular Idaho Rockies, is full of opportunities for outdoor recreating including hiking, biking, fishing, rafting, golf and more.  The community also has a vibrant arts and cultural scene that is world-class.
