Event Description:
Scratch Day is a global event to celebrate and share Scratch, the programming language and online community for kids ages 8-16 from MIT. It is a key teaching tool in computer science for K-8 and beyond! Kids can create interactive stories, games, and animations — and share these creations with others around the world. Come learn more about creative computing, and how to use Scratch to design and build your own programs. MORE INFO MIT’s Scratch Day More Info: https://day.scratch.mit.edu/ Doors will open at 10am for registration, and festivities will run from 10am to 2pm. Children and families can choose from a variety of activities: getting started with Scratch and ScratchJr, connecting Scratch to the physical world, making music and art with Scratch, extending Scratch knowledge, experimenting with shapes and light, collaborating with local Scratchers, and more! There will be plenty of opportunities to tinker with the new features of Scratch 3.0, too. Children of all ages are welcome, with a special focus on age 8 – 14. Whether you are a newcomer or an experienced Scratchers, you will have a chance to learn more about Scratch, share projects, and hang out with the Scratch Team. Parents and educators are encouraged to participate in activities and join discussions about Scratch. We can’t wait to celebrate Scratch Day with you on Saturday, May 11th! FAQs Do parents or guardians also need to register for the event? Yes; all parents and guardians present at the event must also RSVP for a free a ticket. Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult. What should I bring to the event? Please bring a laptop or a tablet! We encourage bringing one laptop or tablet per child. We will have some extras on hand, so if you do not have access to a laptop or a tablet, please email us at info@ketchuminnovationcenter.com to arrange to borrow one. Can I still come if I did not register? Yes, we will have day-of registration available. Will there be food? We will provide snacks and light refreshments during the event. Are there ID requirements or an age limit to enter the event? Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult. There are no age restrictions for children or teens attending the event, but please keep in mind that the event is suited for ages 5 and up.
