Name: Paris Windows: A Photography Exhibit by Gay Odmark at The Community Library
Date: July 8, 2016
Time: 4:30 PM - 12:00 PM MDT
Event Description:
This month, The Community Library presents Paris Windows, a new photography exhibit by local artist and photographer Gay Bawa Odmark. A reception will mark the opening of the exhibit on Friday, July 8, from 4:30 to 6 p.m., at the outset of the Gallery Walk. This exhibit showcases Odmark’s enchanted vision of Paris, the celebrated City of Lights. The contemporary images reflect the beauty and uniqueness of Paris streets and the transcendent life of found objects. Her camerawork reveals Paris’ unique light that blends cosmopolitan and diverse pop culture, multifarious European history, a sense of modernism and a twisted love affair with reflection. Gay Bawa Odmark was born in Lahore, India (now Pakistan), and moved with her family to Calcutta during the violence that erupted following India's partition. Her family eventually settled in London and she has spent her life moving between the United Kingdom, India and the United States. Odmark has studied art at San Diego State University, California College of Arts and Crafts, the San Francisco Art Academy and San Francisco Art Institute and the Slade Academy in London, where she earned a painting diploma. She has exhibited her work in California, Jackson Hole, the Boise Art Museum, and in Ketchum. She also has taught art classes throughout Idaho. The exhibit is part of The Community Library’s “Art in the Lecture Room” series, an initiative to feature great works by local artists on a rotating basis throughout the year. A share of the sales proceeds will be donated to support The Community Library. For more information, please call (208) 726-3493 ext. 123 or email Anna Svidgal asvidgal@comlib.org.
