Mythic Motifs in Movies
Explore mythic motifs as they appear in popular film. Learn how to enjoy movies more deeply
and recognize clues that will provide a richer understanding of the story and characters. This course will begin with a review of the hero’s journey as it appears obviously in some films and more subtlety in others. Greek gods and
goddesses as they represent archetypal ideas and appear in primary characters will be discussed and film clips will be shown to highlight concepts.
Current Academy Award-nominated films andclass participant’s favorites will also be examined.
