Footlight Dance Company, under the Artistic Direction of Hilarie Neely, is proud to announce our Company performances entitled “DIVERSITY – Talking with our Hearts” January 24-February 9, 2018 and invites the public to attend any of nine free shows touring Blaine County Schools. This show uses the concert dance forms of ballet, modern, jazz, hip hop, and tap dance for our discussion about diversity: social, cultural, environmental. We hope these performances will inspire and initiate discussions about the diversity in our valley, state and nationally and how important it is to listen first and talk with human dignity from our hearts. We have collaborated with Flourish Foundation and Wow-Students.org to bring memento cards to each student that will encourage conversation at home and school. Our advanced ballet students collaborated with Mason Corkutt at Silver Creek HS making a sound scape of their thoughts on diversity, the dancers will dance to this layered music with a solo cello by local professional musician/teacher Ellen Sanders. We are presenting this show to all schools in our Valley, including the Community School, Hemingway School, Carey School, Alturas Elementary, Hailey Elementary, Bellevue Elementary, WR High School and WR Middle School. Sage, Silver Creek and Syringa students will also attend a performance at the WRHS Performing Arts Theater. A narration that accompanies the performances will discuss how the arts bring diversity and provide us with a forum to discuss issues with a creative voice. Our tour of the schools will take us to Carey School, Friday, Jan. 26, 9:30am; Sage School/Silver Creek HS/Syringa School will see the performance at WRHS Performing Arts Theater, Monday, Jan. 29, 9:30am; WRHS will see the performance at WRHS Performing Arts Theater, Tuesday, Jan. 30 10:00am; Alturas School, Tuesday, Jan. 30, 1:00pm; Hailey Elementary, Monday, February 5, 1:30pm; Bellevue Elementary School, Wednesday, Feb. 7, 1:30pm; Community School, Thursday, Feb. 8, 10:15am; Hemingway School, Friday, Feb. 9, 8:45am. Public is invited to any of the school performances free of charge, if they call the school and request to attend.
