Name: 2020 Memorial Day NO - Ceremony Hailey Cemetery
Date: May 25, 2020
Event Description:
The Hailey Memorial Day Committee is sad to say that, due to continued concerns regarding COVID-19, the Hailey Memorial Day Ceremony, at least as we knew it, will not be taking place this year.
This decision was not made lightly. It follows many discussions undertaken with governing bodies and public health officials, as well as directives from the State of Idaho. The decision is heart-wrenching for our committee.
It is regrettable that the COVID-19 pandemic is not allowing us to gather as a community on Memorial Day to honor our Veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice.
This Memorial Day is unique. Please keep our veterans and active military in your thoughts and prayers, along with everyone who is keeping us safe in these troubling times. Together we will get through this as the strong and caring community Hailey and the Wood River Valley is and always has been.
We want to you to know we will not forget.  Memorial Day observance cannot be cancelled. It will still be Memorial Day on May 25th. We can still honor the veterans individually perhaps to stand outside our homes at noon, observe a moment of silence and listen for the church bells. Join the virtual "Carry the Load", perhaps a chorus of the God Bless America. Something like the Wood River Howl each evening at 8:00 PM but at noon.
We will decorate over 420 veterans’ graves with flags and carnations again this year in Hailey’s cemetery. We will also place a Memorial wreath on the Blaine County Veterans monument here and display the Armed Services individual flags from Dawn to Dusk May 25.  (The Cemetery will be open to folks that would like to drive through to offer their remembrance.)
We'd also like to send a huge thank you to the public health officials and health care workers who are working tirelessly to keep us safe and manage this crisis to the best of their ability.
Stay safe, take care of each other and we wish you and yours well.
